Our Strategy In April 2000, the Government published its Sports Strategy A Sporting Future for All. From this dawned the Physical Education School Sport and Club Links Strategy (PESSCL). Since 2002 the Government has invested 1.5 billion into the 8 projects within this PESSCL Strategy. The purpose of the programme is to increase sports opportunities for more young people through co-ordinated PE, school sport and out-of-school-hours learning activities that link with local community sports facilities and development programmes. The School Sports Partnerships are families of secondary and primary schools that work together to enhance the quality of sporting opportunities, through the curriculum, Out of School Hours Learning, inter-school competitions and school to club links; based around a ‘hub’ Sports College. Our Vision "All children whatever their circumstances, background or ability will have the opportunity to participate in and enjoy physical education and sport" We work alongside a number of partners from the public, private and voluntary sectors, bringing together expertise, resources and ideas from all sides of the sports world in South Derbyshire and beyond. The School Sports Partnership provides a central and co-ordinated sports service for children and young adults across the District to benefit from. The partnership strive to deliver the best Coaching, Equipment, Venues and Sports to everyone across the District
Where Do We Go Next? By Steve Smith PDM With the Olympics on the horizon, sport and physical activity will receive more publicity than ever before. The School Sports Partnership aims to use this increased profile to raise the interest of young people and provide more and better opportunities for them. A key area of the Sports Partnership work will be in the promotion and communication of existing activities so that young people find out more about what is happening in their own communities. We hope to continue helping and supporting our local sports clubs through the use of Partnership Grants and also with the help of high quality coaches to ensure that we are developing and sustaining the pathway of grassroots sport for all abilities, backgrounds and activities. From this we aim to increase the number of young people participating in Sport at School and Club level. The Sports Partnership are in the process of reviewing its targets as part of the wider “South Derbyshire Sport” Strategy where all local agencies will sign up and help to deliver agreed action plans linked to the new strategic targets. South Derbyshire School Sports Partnership has come a long way since its inception in 2004 and with the continued support of the schools and key partners we will strive to offer more and better opportunities for all young people within South Derbyshire |
