PESSYP

The Youth Sport Trust plays a central role in supporting the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in the delivery of the PE & Sport Strategy for Young People.  The strategy sets out how the Olympic legacy aim to get more children and young people taking part in high quality PE and sport will be reached through the delivery of the five hour offer.

The Youth Sport Trust and Sport England are working with the DCSF and the DCMS on ways to help local delivery partners increase provision, demand and take-up amongst all young people (5-16 year olds) of their five hours a week of high-quality PE and sport (three hours for 16 -19 year olds).

The Guide to Delivering the Five Hour Offer outlines the vision for the strategy and the five hour offer and the How do we make the five hour offer relevant to every young person? is a leaflet outlining what delivering a personalised five hour offer means in practice.

PE & Sport Strategy in action

The PE & Sport Strategy for Young People has ten key strands, each designed to maximise opportunities for young people to access high-quality PE and sport. Working in partnership with the DCSF and DCMS, the Youth Sport Trust supports the development of Specialist Sports Colleges and School Sport Partnerships. We also work as part of a consortium to deliver the National PE and School Sport Professional Development Programme to improve the quality of teaching and learning in PE and school sport. In addition, we work closely with Sport England on the following strands:

Disability
Coaching
Competition
Leadership & Volunteering
Gifted & Talented
